Who we are?

The Barrackpore Avenue Women’s Cultural and Social Welfare Society was established in 2001 in West Bengal. BAWCSWS owes its existence to the dedication and hard work of Mrs. Camille Johnson and her team, who wanted to combat the growing poverty in villages and urban areas.

Barrackpore Avenue Women’s Cultural and Social Welfare is providing three proper homes for the children. Here they are given good nutrition, a strong educational foundation & alternative vocational course, recreation, and health care. This will be a solution to solving the problems hidden by the fact that homeless children are invisible; yet by the very nature of their situation, they are included among those that are classified as disadvantaged and poor in Barrackpore. In the Barrackpore locality, like any other area of the world, there is a growing number of street children caused by poor economy and other factors. Findings still show that children in abject poverty are recognized by rather elementary criteria.

The organization works shoulder to shoulder with the government stakeholder for the implementation of sensitive and essential programs. Long years of committed work in the areas of anti-trafficking campaigns, successful rehabilitation, and mass awareness have culminated with the government’s recognition as an efficient, responsible civil body to be a part of the Sankalpa I and II programs. The organization has been recognized for its services with a Women & Child license from 2010 onwards. Furthermore, the relentless work in the field of women’s empowerment, peace & reconciliation & positive development has won the organization the prestige of being a government service provider to act as a mediator for women afflicted by domestic violence. Presently the organization partners with the Barrackpore police commissioner. It is rewarding to be able to contribute to society, knowing that people working in the NGO sector have a common goal—to educate and uplift the members of their society and to invest in future generations. The Sankalpa II program is an awareness program against child marriage and child trafficking issues. Collaborate working with BDO, Barrackpore-11 Development Block.
